Don’t Run Away, Dive In!

Sometimes I find myself judging the present moment based on my wants and desires. Instead of seeing things for what they are and gleaning the value inherent in every situation, I can become detached and uninterested. Shouldn’t it be interesting enough that I am already engaged in the task? If I truly did not want this experience, then why would I be experiencing it?

These questions brought me to a conclusion; there is only one way for things to be: the way things are. The choices that we make, both consciously and unconsciously, determine the circumstances of our experience. By aligning with the present moment and according with the way things are, you can learn more about yourself and the decisions that brought you to this point.

We tend to look outside of ourselves for understanding; we look to religious or spiritual ideas to give meaning to life. We look everywhere except the present moment, the daily life that we live and the people in it. Why would we be experiencing this moment if it did not bring us the potential for greater understanding?

The deepest meaning has roots right under your nose, buried in the present moment. The person you just brushed past, the homeless man at the bus station, the line at your favorite coffee shop. These may seem like “meaningless” interactions, but what a reckless assumption that is!

It is easy to dream of interesting scenarios and ideal situations. The “difficult” option is to live life to fullest, moment by moment. This only seems difficult because we are so accustomed to escaping through both our thoughts and actions.

Every experience that we have is a lesson. If we use our energy to judge the experience, we may miss the opportunity to learn. Refrain from judging these moments, instead be thankful for the opportunity and stay open minded.

Life is simple, it is our thoughts make it complicated.
